NI Householders Revealed As Biggest Energy Wasters
Northern Ireland householders have today been revealed as the biggest carbon wasters in the UK, according to a report conducted by the Energy Saving Trust (EST).
County Down has been named the highest polluter in the UK having the biggest carbon footprints, while Belfast was revealed as one of the lowest - in 157th place on the 435-strong list.
Omagh, Magherafelt, Ballymena, Antrim, Cookstown, Banbridge, Armagh and Dungannon were also named and shamed on the list.
The EST, which is an independent organisation, ranked people living in local areas by their household and car emissions. The reports findings are detailed in the report ‘Green Barometer III’.
Noel Williams, head of EST in Northern Ireland, said: "This latest Green Barometer Report is not about singling out local authorities; rather it is about the local authority areas and the individuals who live there.
"Each area is unique and has its own challenges and opportunities; we can tailor advice to local authorities and the individuals who live within their areas."
