Dog Dies In Arson Attack

A pet dog has died in a suspected arson attack on a family home in Co Armagh.

A couple whose home was destroyed in a fire in Armagh city believe they were targeted because they had refused to leave the area.

Keith and Linda McIlveen returned to their property in the predominantly loyalist Gough Avenue at about 5pm on Thursday to find it alight.

The couple revealed their pet dog died in the fire, and said they had been threatened because they were involved in cross-community work.

Describing the scene, Mr McIlveen said: "My wife opened the living room door and flames shot out.

"The thing that has annoyed us is that we have got a wee dog which was in the living room and it's dead now."

Police have said they are investigating the cause of the blaze.
