Singer Christie Hennessy Dies Aged 62

Irish singer/songwriter Christie Hennessy has died at the age of 62.

The Kerry-born musician died in a London hospice on Tuesday morning, following a short illness. According to reports, the illness is believed to be linked to the years Hennessy spent working on building sites in Britain.

Hennessy had been forced to cancel recent planned concerts due to illness and has not appeared on stage since his Irish tour in March and April this year.

Hennessy recorded his first album in 1972, but achieved major success with his 1992 album 'The Rehearsal'. He also wrote several songs for other artists, including 'Don't Forget Your Shovel' for Christy Moore and 'All The Lies That You Told Me' for Frances Black.

A statement posted on his official web site said: "It is with great sadness that we announce that Christie passed away this morning.

"We just want you all to know how much that Christie appreciated your love and support over the years. He will be sadly missed by all."

Hennessy is survived by his wife Jill, daughters Hermione and Amber and son Tim.
