Dublin Inner City Regeneration Praised By Assembly Minister
Dublin's 'deprived' inner city regeneration projects are an example for Northern Ireland to follow.
According to the NI Assembly's Social Development Minister, Margaret Ritchie, who was visiting Dublin this week to see how some of the city's most deprived areas have been regenerated, the Ballymun estate is a case in point.
The Minister - who is considering regeneration plans for several areas of Belfast, including the lower Falls, lower Shankill and Crumlin Roads - believes lessons can be learnt.
As well as visiting areas such as Ballymun estate in Dublin to see how they have been turned around, Ms Ritchie was also visiting the Fatima Regeneration Project, Dublin Docklands and the Finglas area.
A spokesperson for the Minister said: "Years ago people were desperate to get out of Ballymun. Now they are desperate to get in.
"How did that happen? What lessons can we learn for regeneration in Belfast?"
Ms Ritchie was also meeting with Irish government ministers during her visit.

Carrickfergus £2m Regeneration Project Complete
A £2m regeneration project for Carrickfergus has been completed today. The public realms scheme works commenced just over a year ago in February 2012 and involved overall improvements to the appearance of the town centre.

Belfast Regeneration 'To Continue': Attwood
Despite suffering a major budget cut in June, the Stormont Social Development Minister Alex Attwood has pledged that his Department would "work hard to meet its urban regeneration commitments". He said that the bulk of the regeneration capital budget this year (£110million) had been set aside for Belfast's stalled Royal Exchange development.
