Donegal plant to shed 55 jobs

An electronic firm, which manufactures printed circuit boards in Co Donegal, is set to shed 55 jobs.

The redundancies at Canadian firm SMTC`s Gweedore Industrial Estate plant will come into effect on October 25.

The disappointing news counters Wednesday's announcement by Tanaiste Mary Harney that US eyewear manufacturer Oakley Inc is to create over 100 new jobs in Co Westmeath.

Oakley made the announcement following the company's decision to establish a new prescription eyewear facility in the area.

Oakley will locate the facility in a new 10,000 sq ft building at Clonmore Industrial Estate in Mullingar, the recruitment for which has already started.
