Road Death Toll Continues To Rise
Northern Ireland's rising toll of road deaths has seen a woman being killed - and two other people injured - in an accident in Banbridge.
The latest crash, on Monday night, was the second fatality in Co Down within a few hours, following the death of a pensioner in Hillsborough earlier the same day.
Around 7pm, two cars collided on the Rathfriland Road just outside Banridge, fatally injuring the woman, who was the passenger in one of the cars.
The driver of that car, also a woman, and the man driving the other vehicle, were taken to hospital.
However, their injuries are not believed to be life threatening, a police spokesman said.
Meanwhile, police want anyone who witnessed the earlier fatal accident to contact them.
A pensioner died in that road traffic collision, also in County Down.
The 77-year-old woman was involved in a crash with another car on Windmill Road in Hillsborough, between Lisburn and Annahilt, at around 12.40 on Monday afternoon.
A 67-year-old man was also taken to hospital, however his injuries are not thought to be bad.
The road was closed for a time at its junctions between Upper Ballynahinch Road, Glebe Road and Ballykeel Road.
