250 jobs created by M&S Simply Food

Up to 250 jobs could be created following the decision by Marks & Spencer to roll out its new Simply Food format in 10 sites across the province.

It is expected that three sites will be located in Greater Belfast with the remainder on high streets in larger provincial towns. Each site should net around 25 jobs each.

Commenting on the announcement, Graham Sorah, Divisional Executive for Marks & Spencer in Northern Ireland, said: “Marks & Spencer is delighted to play a part in the further economic development of Northern Ireland. The Simply Food format is an exciting new concept for Marks & Spencer in Northern Ireland and we look forward to introducing it to our customer base here."

The Simply Food format has been trading successfully in several locations on the mainland, with the High Street retailer planning to open up to 150 stores throughout the UK over the next three years.

The shops trade out of 2,500-3,500 sq ft net retail area with a further 2,000 sq ft for stores and offices. However the format of the requirement is flexible enough to allow for adaptation depending on the location and site availability.

The stores offer the usual range of ready meals supplemented by convenience foods, in-store bakery, wines and newspapers.
