Stab Attack Good Samaritan Praised
What has been described as an "horrific" attack on a 'good Samaritan' has been condemned by an NI Policing Board member.
Ulster Unionsits, Basil McCrea also praised the victim and said: "The horrendous attack on this lady and her brave stance in coming forward should give society and our politicians the motivation to actually do something about knife crime."
Gina Christie - a good Samaritan who stopped to help what she thought was another motorist in trouble - was slashed in a frenzied knife attack by a man seeking help, claiming his car had broken down.
Ms Christie was hit over the head with a baseball bat, stabbed in the arm and stomach and robbed of all her cash when she stopped to help the man after he flagged her car down in Co Down.
He asked her if she had any change for the pay phone so he could call for road-side assistance but when he realised she had no wallet he began attacking her with the knife and a second man jumped into the passenger side of her car and rummaged through the glove compartment.
"It was terrifying. If I hadn't been strong enough to fight back you might have been reading in the papers that a woman had been killed," the traumatised 40-year-old driver said.
She was taking a short-cut home through Ballynahinch's Langley Road estate shortly after 10pm last Wednesday when she was viciously attacked.
She had tried to fight off her attackers but it was not until another vehicle approached that the men finally fled in a dark coloured car.
"I keep playing it all over and over in my mind but it didn't cross my mind not to stop when he flagged me down.
"He asked me if I had any change as his car had broken down. I reached into my pocket and then I was hit on the head with what I think was a baseball bat and my glasses were smashed.
"Another man jumped into the car and they were asking for my wallet but I didn't have one and I kept telling them that. I handed over all the cash I had - about £25 or £30 - but the first man started to slash me with a knife.
"When they saw car lights coming they fled and I drove myself home for help. I didn't realise how badly cut I was until I got home and saw how deep the wounds were."

Teenagers Arrested After Attack On Police
Three teenage boys have been arrested after police in L'Derry were attacked with petrol bombs and other missiles on Monday night. The attack began when a large group of young people assembled in the Circular Road and Creggan Heights area and began throwing stones and bottles at police.
