West Belfast Rape Vigil Held

While it has emerged that a youth of just 15 has been arrested by police investigating the brutal rape of a young tourist last weekend, some 300 people gathered at the scene to show solidarity with the young victim over the weekend.

A rally was held at the Colin Glen Forest Park in West Belfast where an American tourist was sexually attacked in broad daylight last weekend.

The victim, who is in her early 20s, had been out for a walk when a youth confronted her and dragged her into the bushes.

A 15-year-old boy was recently arrested in connection with the assault.

People from the local community held the rally in the car park before marching through the park.

The event was attended by West Belfast MP and Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams and other political representatives.

Sinn Fein MLA Jennifer McCann, who addressed the crowd, said though the event was primarily about showing support for the victim, it was also a statement from the community that they were not going to be intimidated out of the park.
