Centre To Encourage Greener Living Opens
An eco friendly centre, which would encourage 'greener' living, is being launched today in Londonderry.
The Eco Base - built mostly from straw - on Racecourse Road, Derry, is expected to serve as "an environmental Cape Canaveral" and a base for projects to be constructed and launched.
Francine Moran of the Ballymagroarty Hazelbank Community Partnership said she was "delighted" by the success of the project.
"We received help from the Arena Network NI, the environmental arm of Business in the Community, who helped us access £93,000 from the Big Lottery Fund and we’d like to thank them for their help," Ms Moran said.
The ecological visitor and community centre will use biofuel heating, solar panels and rainwater harvesting equipment. Recycled materials were also used extensively in the building of the centre.
