Student Death Is Second Road Tragedy

Two young Irish people have been killed in tragic road accidents.

A young student artist from County Antrim was killed in a road accident in England.

It has emerged that Emma Donnelly, 20, from Woodland Avenue, Lambeg, was hit by a car on Saturday after stepping off a minibus on a road between Bath and Stroude.

The youngest of nine children, she had been studying fine art at Bristol University.

Emma, who had five brothers and three sisters, had been on her way back from the Badminton Horse Trials, where she was working, when the accident happened. She died at the scene.

Her parents, Liam and Geraldine, have flown to England to bring back her body. A post mortem examination is due to be carried out.

Meanwhile, bike racing ace, Dubliner Martin Finnegan, was killed at the weekend in the Tandragee 100's 600cc bike race following his victory in the open class earlier in the day.

The race had only gone one lap when Finnegan spun out of control on the approach to Marlacoo Corner and he ended up in a field of spectators.

It is understood three race fans were injured during the accident.

One of them, a female, was taken to Craigavon Hospital suffering from head injuries.

Doctors and first aid officers were quickly on the scene and tried to resuscitate Finnegan but they were unsuccessful.

Finnegan had hoped to be a leading figure at the North West 200 in a fortnight's time and he was also intending to ride in the Isle of Man TT.

In addition he has ridden in the Far East and is one of the most travelled of Irish road racers.
