Real IRA admit to murder of David Caldwell
The Real IRA have confirmed that they planted the booby-trapped bomb which killed civilian building contractor David Caldwell in Co Londonderry three weeks ago.
A man claiming to represent the dissident republican terror group contacted the Derry Journal newspaper yesterday evening and said that they were responsible for the killing.
Civilian contractor 51-year-old David Caldwell was killed at Caw TA base in Limavady on August 1 after he picked up a booby-trapped lunchbox. Mr Caldwell had been involved in refurbishing facilities at the camp.
The murder drew widespread condemnation from across the political spectrum, with Sinn Fein's Martin McGuinness describing the killing as "absolutely and totally wrong".
An army spokesperson said the base was not used for security operations and had been closed since last year. It is mostly used to stage training days for teenage cadets.
In a similar incident in February this year, a civilian worker was seriously injured after an explosion at the perimeter fencing of Magilligan army base.
Since the Omagh bombing in 1998, when it killed 29 people and wounded 330 others, the Real IRA has been linked to several murders including Protestant taxi-driver Trevor Kell in 2000 and IRA whistle-blower Eamonn Collins in 1999.
Mr Caldwell, who was former member of the Ulster Defence Regiment, leaves behind his partner Mavis McFaul and four children.

Three In Hospital After Police Vehicle Collides With Another Vehicle
Two police officers and a civilian remain in hospital following a collision in Newry on Saturday, 13 April. It is understood that the police officers were travelling in a police vehicle to attend a separate incident at about 7.30pm when they collided with another vehicle on the Fathom Road.

IRA murder victim's grave desecrated
The grave of a Londonderry man who was murdered by the IRA in August 2002, has been desecrated by vandals. David Caldwell, 51, from the Waterside area of the city died after he picked up a lunch box containing explosives at the Caw territorial army base in Derry. Mr Caldwell had just arrived for work when the incident happened.

Mother of IRA murder victim dies
The mother of an IRA murder victim whose body was never found, suffered a major stroke last week and died in Craigavon Area Hospital. 82-year-old Vera McVeigh campaigned for the return of her son's body after the IRA secretly buried his body in 1975.
