'Tele Shuts Derry Plant

Decades of newspaper history are to come to an end as the iconic Belfast Telegraph has revealed that it is to shut its offices in Londonderry.

Independent News and Media - which owns the paper - made the announcement on Wednesday noting that while some staff would continue working in the area, others would instead be offered redeployment or retraining.

Three decades of the Troubles failed to stop production and distribution of the North West edition of the paper - which currently employs five journalists and six advertising staff on the Glendermott Road in the Waterside - but economics has now meant that production is being fully centralised.

Production of the North West titles would not be affected, according to the paper's management, although the regional presence would disappear.
