HazChem Alert At Docks

The emergency services are this afternoon dealing with what police have described as a chemical 'explosion' involving hazardous materials in the docks area of Belfast.

The PSNI said a 100-metre exclusion zone has been set up around a chemical distributions firm in the Duncrue Industrial Estate.

However, there are no reports of injuries following the incident, which happened at about 11am.

People living nearby have been advised to keep their windows closed while motorists were asked to avoid the area. Some four fire appliances were sent to the scene.

One eye witness has described thick plumes of orange smoke in the air.
