Nationalist homes targeted by petrol bombers

Homes in the nationalist Ardoyne area have been attacked with petrol bombs during another night of violence in north Belfast.

One family, including a five-month-old baby, escaped injury in the attacks after a petrol bomb was thrown into their back yard.

Stones and golf balls were also thrown at a number of other homes on Alliance Avenue.

Last night's attacks followed further violence on Wednesday evening when around 150 people were involved in trouble on the Ardoyne Road at the junction of Alliance Avenue.

Police had to intervene when opposing nationalist and loyalist mobs attacked each other with a variety of missiles.

Last night's violence came shortly after the Parades Commission upheld its decision allowing an Apprentice Boys demonstration to parade along a disputed route in north Belfast this Saturday. (MB)
