Pay deal secured for low-paid council workers
Unions have agreed to suspend further strike action involving local council workers after an agreement was reached on Monday night between management and council worker representatives.
Two days of talks ended when conciliation service Acas put together a backdated pay deal which is to be put forward to union members.
The two-year pay deal is likely to result in a wage rise ranging from 7.7% to 10.9% for the lowest paid.
Acas is also recommending that from October 1 this year there should be an additional 1% increase for the lowest paid and from April 1, 2003, there should be a 3.5% increase with an additional 1% for the lowest paid.
It also proposes setting up a commission to report within a year on how to tackle low pay and ensure equal pay for council workers.
Public sector workers staged a 24-hour walkout last month after management refused to meet union demands for a 6% staff pay rise, offering 3% instead.

MLA's call for new firefighters pay scheme
Two UUP MLA's have called on the Northern Ireland Executive to implement a new pay scheme for Ulster's firefighters. North Antrim UUP MLA the Rev Robert Coulter called for the introduction of a new pay formula in a motion to the Assembly on Monday. Mr Coulter said he hoped it would help achieve a real remedy to the question of firefighter’s pay.

Hovis Workers Agree Increased Pay Offer
A majority of Hovis workers have accepted an increased pay offer and strike action has now ended. Unite the union welcomed the offer and said it was as "decisive victory for workforce achieved through collective organisation and industrial militancy".

Education Minister, John O'Dowd, has said he will move to fast-track the payment of teachers' incremental pay awards. The date for teachers' incremental progression each year is 1 September, but no agreement has been formally reached between employers and unions on a 2013/14 pay award.

Newry, Mourne And Down District Council Workers Start Industrial Action
Hundreds of workers at Newry, Mourne and Down District Council are taking part in industrial action and have started working to rule. Four trade unions are taking part in the joint action following an ongoing dispute over pay and conditions. The action is expected to have an impact on services including leisure centres and bin collections.

Council pay talks continue
Talks are continuing today over the pay dispute between council workers and local authority employers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Workers claim that their responsibilities have increased over time while their pay has remained unchanged during the same period - with some full-time workers earning less than £10,000 a year.
