Eamonn Slams Portuguese Cops
Homebred TV personality Eamonn Holmes has hit out at police in Portugal after he had thousands of pounds stolen in a burglary.
He has told readers of a regular newspaper column that he pens that he lost between £8,000 and £10,000 at a luxury hotel in an Algarve resort last month.
Holmes was on holiday with his partner Ruth Langsford and his four children at the time, but they were not in the room when the gang struck.
The Belfast-born star hit out at local police for their investigation after the thieves forced their way into his room and smashed a safe to get at the money.
In his regular column in The People newspaper he said that "like Kate and Gerry McCann" he had had dealings with the Portuguese police.
"Unlike Kate and Gerry, I was only trying to report a burglary - not the theft of my child," he said.
"One of the things obvious to anyone dealing with the police on the Algarve is the sorry fact that no matter what you have lost, there simply isn't enough of them to begin tracking it down.
"That may be one of the worst twists of fate in what happened to Madeleine - that tragically, she went missing in the wrong place."
Police in the resort are still hunting for the missing cash and are appealing for information.
