Cannabis Plants Seized

Cannabis plants have been recovered and Irish police have arrested three people following raids on a number of houses in Co Longford and Co Roscommon - by coincidence at much the same time as similar raids in Northern Ireland.

Gardaí suspected that cannabis was being cultivated with the Irish Republic raids carried out at around 7am in Castlerea, Strokestown and Drumlish yesterday.

Gardai later said that around €500,000 worth of cannabis was seized at the houses.

Two men and a woman were still being questioned about the seizures at stations in Boyle, Roscommon and Longford late yesterday.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, two men and a woman have been arrested after the discovery of a cannabis factory in Co Antrim.

They were arrested after a planned search of a house in the Marconi Park area of Ballycastle on Wednesday.

A PSNI spokesperson said officers seized a substantial number of cannabis plants and paraphernalia.

The men are aged 21 and 46 and the woman is 44.
