Donegal Suspect Recovers: Back In Custody

The man arrested in Co Donegal in connection with the killing of Londonderry woman Jean Quigley has been taken back into Gardaí custody. The 36-year-old, understood to be Stephen Cahoon, was arrested in Donegal town on Tuesday night and taken to Ballyshannon Garda Station but was later taken to hospital in Sligo when he complained of feeling ill. He was discharged on Thursday night. Detectives want to question him about Mrs Quigley who was beaten to death at her Cornshell Fields home on 26 July.

Aussie Death 'Not Suspicious'

The death in Australia of a Co Armagh man is not being treated as suspicious, police in Victoria have said. Stephen King, from Keady, went missing two weeks ago after a night out with friends. His body was found on Saturday in the Yarra River. Police said a post mortem on the body confirmed his identity and that there were no suspicious circumstances.

Fraud On The Cards

A man has been charged with 79 counts of false accounting and one count of money laundering in Northern Ireland. The 40-year-old is expected to appear at Newry Magistrates Court on 27 August. A PSNI spokeswoman said the charges are understood to relate to numerous offences that took place throughout the UK between 2005 and 2007. However, fraud is 'on the cards' this week in the Irish Republic too with several hundred bank customers believed to have been hit by an online scam. It is believed the credit card details were accessed several months ago, but have only begun to use them in the past two days. Bank monitoring systems operated by Irish banks spotted unusual transactions, after the card details were used to buy low-value items, for €1 or €2, on a US website. It is thought the criminals were testing the cards, to check if they were still valid.

Campbell 'In Tune'

The NI Culture Minister, Gregory Campbell was 'in tune' last night as he paid tribute to the achievements of Ulster Youth Orchestra. Speaking after attending one of the Orchestra's summer concerts at the Guildhall in Londonderry, Minister Campbell said: "The performance of the Orchestra tonight, directed by guest conductor Takuo Yuasa, was tremendous and I would like to commend all those involved particularly the musicians themselves. The talent on display tonight is further evidence of the high calibre of young musicians which we have in Northern Ireland and we should all be proud of their achievements." The Minister also thanked the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the corporate sponsors, UK property development and investment company Land Securities Trillium, for supporting the work of the Orchestra.
