Fire At Shipyard

Workers at Harland and Wolff shipyard (pictured) had to be evacuated on Saturday after a fire broke out on a ship which was being repaired. An oxy-acetylene cylinder being used by workmen caught fire at around 9.40am before engulfing the vessel at Belfast Harbour. The Fire and Rescue service arrived within minutes and began to put out the blaze at Queen's Road. While there was no threat to other ships or buildings, a 300 metre exclusion zone was put in place as a precaution. Earlier, there were reports that passengers on board a nearby cruise ship had to be evacuated but the Harbour Police said no-one was in fact evacuated from the cruise ship.

SF Put Assembly On Edge

Sinn Fein will collapse the Northern Ireland Assembly if policing and justice are not devolved, a spokesman has said. While the party is involved in talks with the DUP on the issue, it would pull its ministers out of the Executive if there was no movement on the key issues. Speaking at a republican meeting in Co Cavan, Caoimhghin O Caolain said his party's patience should not be tested.

'Abducted' Girl Safe

The 13-year-old girl feared to have been abducted in Co Tyrone has been found safe in the Republic. Baliey O'Loughlin (13) from Strabane went missing on Saturday morning but was discovered on Sunday at an address in Limerick. Earlier, police made an appeal for help after officers thought she that she might have been abducted and with a man in his 20s. A PSNI spokesperson said detectives investigating the incident were treating it as an abduction, but no arrests have been made.

Quiet Man Pub Opens to Positive Reviews

A replica of the pub featured in John Wayne's famous Quiet Man film has been built by fans in Co Mayo. Pat Cohan's in Cong was actually a shop in real life but Hollywood director John Ford converted it into a bar for the Oscar-winning 1952 movie starring the iconic actor, cast outside his normal tough cowboy role. Now, locals have painstakingly studied stills of scenes featuring the bar and carefully assembled a replica with all the fittings, fixtures and ornaments of the time. The pub is owned by John Connolly, whose uncle Jack Murphy was an extra in the film, shot in scenic locations in Co Mayo and Co Galway. Now, the bar hosts daily re-runs of the film DVD, and Mr Connolly said: "Tourists, especially Americans, who came to see where the film was shot were always disappointed when they heard the pub didn't actually exist in real life"... but now it does, if only in facsimile version.
