McGuinness commends education programme
The use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) is essential for a truly modern 21st century education service, Education Minister, Martin McGuinness, has said.
Mr McGuinness was speaking at a reception at Parliament Buildings to congratulate the graduates of the International Masters Programme in Education Technology.
The programme, operated by the University of Ulster and Duquesne University Pittsburgh, enabled 17 people from across the education sector in Northern Ireland to develop highly specialist knowledge and skills that are required for on line education.
Mr McGuinness said: "It is clear that the use of ICT can be used to help improve learning standards in all subjects and is a resource that we must fully utilize.
"The International Masters Programme in Education Technology, which was initiated and managed by the Western Education and Library Board, provides a valuable learning experience and I am proud that my Department, in conjunction with the Department of Employment and Learning, could fund it."
The International Masters Programme in Education Technology lasted 17 months with 17 people from across the education sector in the province formally graduating at a special ceremony at the Waterfront Hall.

The students, from Trinity Western University in British Columbia, are visiting Ireland as part of their Irish Studies Programme.
