Police Question 24-Year-Old Over Baby Death
Detectives investigating the death of a 14-week-old baby boy in Newtownabbey have been granted more time to question a man about the infant's murder.
Cameron Leslie, from the New Mossley estate in Newtownabbey, had been taken to the Antrim Area Hospital on Thursday with a number of serious injuries. Cameron was then transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children on Friday afternoon. He died on Saturday morning.
It is understood the man being questioned is Cameron's father, Ryan Leslie, aged 24.
Police have been given a total of 96 hours to question the man regarding the baby's death. His top floor flat in Ballyvessey Green was sealed off for examination and is being treated as a suspected crime scene.
According to a police spokeswoman: "Detectives have launched a murder inquiry following the death of a 14-week-old baby boy. The baby passed away after being admitted to hospital to be treated for a number of injuries.
"A 24-year-old man has been arrested and is currently assisting police with their inquiries."
A post-mortem is to be carried out to establish the cause of death.
