SF 'Running Away From Reality', Claims DUP's Simpson

Further rumblings of discontent were voiced at Stormont today - with a DUP MLA accusing Sinn Fein of "running away from reality".

Assemblyman David Simpson was speaking during a debate on tenants' rights - a resolution brought forward by Sinn Fein.

Mr Simpson said there was no point in Sinn Fein pretending to be concerned about ordinary people's lives while it was blocking Executive meetings.

He accused the party of running away from reality. The devolved Executive has not met for more than four months.

The last round scheduled ministerial talks faltered, after Sinn Fein refused to participate.

The party insists there is no "spirit of partnership" within the power-sharing government, and has continued calls for the devolution of policing and justice powers to the Assembly.

Both the DUP and Sinn Fein have been holding talks in an effort to resolve their differences.

However, the DUP has maintained that there will be no transfer of policing power until there is consensus and 'confidence' within the unionist community.

Ministerial colleagues, including the SDLP's Margaret Ritchie and UUP Employment Minister Reg Empey, have urged the cabinet to met and discuss what they call 'bread and butter issues' affecting the entire community.
