Alliance Calls For Omagh Intelligence Release

Northern Ireland's Alliance Party is to call for the full disclosure of information held by security services, on both sides of the border, in the wake of the Omagh bombing, more than 10 years ago.

The party will today propose a motion at Stormont to release all intelligence information relating to the atrocity.

The Assembly motion will also seek data held by authorities prior to the bombing.

The bomb detonated in Omagh High Street on 15 August 1998. It was the single worse attack during the Troubles, claiming 29 lives.

Alliance Leader David Ford, pictured, said he hoped to win cross-party support for the motion.

"The issue now is to get the truth out for the people of Omagh.

"They know it was dissident republicans that caused the bomb - what they have a right to know is what information the security services held before and immediately after the bombing," added Mr Ford.
