Appeal Over Armagh Murder Probe

Police are continuing to hunt the killer of a "quiet and inoffensive" woman who was well-known and liked in the area of Armagh that she lived in.

A detective leading the investigation into the murder of the widow has said it might be possible that the killing had been a burglary or robbery "gone wrong".

He was recalling how the body of 62-year-old Eileen Corrigan was found in her home at Boyds Row, near Loughgall Road, in Armagh City, on 6 October.

Detective Chief Inspector Debbie McMaster, thanked the community for their assistance and commented: "We have had a number of calls following our appeal last week and myself and my officers are very pleased with the response, however we still need witnesses to come forward.

"One of our lines of enquiry is that this may have been a burglary or robbery gone wrong that tragically resulted in Eileen's death," the detective said.

Mrs Corrigan, who lived alone after the death of her husband 12 years ago, was last seen alive the Thursday before she was found dead by a friend.

Detectives also say she may have known the person who killed her and they have revealed that the woman had been strangled.

Police believe she was dead for at least two days before she was discovered.
