Movilla Dispute Settlement Looming
A major row between teachers and school management that has kept a Co Down school closed for weeks may be soon ended.
It was reported this afternoon that a breakthrough could be found which will end the acrimonious Movilla High School teachers' strike.
The South Eastern Education and Library Board is to put a new offer to the NASUWT union which it hopes could end the current stalemate.
The revised proposal is believed to focus on the sticking point of the independent assessment report on the child at the centre of the dispute, which the union is insisting it sees before agreeing to end industrial action.
However, the South Eastern Education and Library Board made clear that the report will contain sensitive personal data, and insisted that it cannot be disclosed to a third party without the pupil's consent.
The 25 striking teachers first took to the picket line at the Newtownards school 16 days ago.
The NASUWT members voted to walk out after their pay was docked for refusing to teach a student accused of assaulting a teacher.
If today's bid fails, the SEELB has confirmed that placing pupils in other local schools when the holiday ends on November 3 if the strike action continued was an option being examined.

Heavy Snow Closes Over 80 Schools
Over 80 schools across Northern Ireland have been closed as the heavy snow continues to cause disruption on Tuesday morning. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, as the snow is continuing to affect many roads. Areas which have been majorly disrupted include Lisburn, Castlereagh and Carryduff.

Appeal Following Arson Attack In South Belfast
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following an arson attack at a property in south Belfast. At approximately 10.20pm on Saturday, 13 April, police received a report of a fire at a house in the Kilburn Street area. Police attended the scene alongside the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.

Justice Ministers Discuss Proposed North-South Cooperation
Justice Minister, Naomi Long, has met with her southern counterpart, Helen McEntee TD, to discuss North-South co-operation across a range of criminal justice matters. The meeting was held under the auspices of the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) on Cooperation on Criminal Justice Matters.
