Grenade!
What was believed to have been a World War II grenade has been found near houses in Magherafelt and made safe by the Army. A number of houses were evacuated after the device was discovered at about 2pm on Monday. It was found by workmen at Ballyronan Road. A number of roads in the surrounding area were closed to traffic.
Bomb Blast
What police described as a "crude device" has exploded at a house in south Belfast. Three people in the house on Donegall Road escaped injury when the device, which caused minor blast damage, was put through the letter box on Monday. A number of items have been removed for further examination. Another security alert is continuing in the Whiterock area of west Belfast while an alert in the Greencastle area of north Belfast has been declared a hoax.
Catholic Audience
Lay people could soon be taking a greater role as the Catholic Church bids to cope with the falling numbers of priests and dwindling congregations. The radical plan for the Archdiocese of Armagh has been unveiled by Cardinal Sean Brady where he said that parishes would be grouped together into 'clusters' to make best use of resources and more lay people would be employed.
