Inaugral Shannon to Moscow service jets off

The new Irish airline - SkyNet - launched their inaugural flight yesterday at Shannon Aerospace facility in the Republic of Ireland.

The new carrier, which will operate out of Shannon, aims to provide a service six days a week (the exception being Saturday) for Amsterdam and then Moscow.

SkyNet, the first registered airline with routes into Europe and Russia in association with Aeroflot Russian Airlines has created 61 new jobs and reportedly took ‘millions’ to establish.

SkyNet, which has a single Boeing 737-400, hopes to extend the routes to include Poland and Warsaw later this year.

Ryanair Reduces Dublin Flights
Air travellers may have to go further afield to make holiday connections this winter after Ryanair announced it is to cut the frequency of its flights from Dublin Airport by 20% during the winter season. However, it has also revealed plans to add almost 40 new routes from mainland UK airports to both winter and summer sunshine destinations.

Airline announces new low-cost scheme
BMI has announced that it is to scrap business class on most of its Heathrow services, in favour of a single-class service. Only four core business routes – Heathrow to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast City and Brussels – will retain a separate business class cabin.

Airline sector exhibits first signs of recovery in traffic
Tentative signs of recovery in the airline sector have been bolstered by British Airways’ decision to restore part of its transatlantic services. From April, BA is to reinstate its transatlantic Concorde flights during the week, which will see Heathrow-US air traffic levels back to normal after the events of September 11.
