OBE awarded to Derry businessman
Derry businessman Paul Diamond has been awarded the OBE in this year's Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to the packaging industry.
The Managing Director of Diamond Corrugated Cases Mr Diamond said he was very pleased that the packaging industry had been recognised for the crucial role that it plays in the economy.
Mr Diamond, who is also the President of Derry City Football Club, stated that the award was testimony to the quality of people and skills that existed within his own company, which manufactures and supplies corrugated packaging for the textile, healthcare, software, food and drink industries throughout Ireland.
Paul Diamond took over as Managing Director of Diamond Corrugated Cases in the early 1980’s, a company that his late father Gerard Diamond started in 1972.
A joint venture partner with local Chartered Accountant Terry Houston through their company Quay Developments and the Lagan Group is creating the £20 million Riverfront, Derry’s largest private development, which consists of 155 apartments, 35,000 sq ft of commercial and 280 car parking spaces.
Mr Diamond is also involved in the development of other building projects including apartments in Greencastle Village, Co. Donegal.
