Housing Executive Up For Two National Awards

The Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) will find out this week whether it has won two national awards for regeneration.

NIHE has been nominated for the Developing and Regenerating Communities prize and the Outstanding Achievement in Housing in Northern Ireland accolade.

The nominations have been made in recognition of work undertaken by our Bangor District in supporting the Whitehill Community Association.

Bangor Manager Robert Mahaffy will be attending the ceremony in London, he said: "The nominations for National Housing Awards recognise the efforts of Housing Executive staff and members of the local community who are working together to improve the lives of the many people who live in the Whitehill area.

"Improvements have not only been made to people's homes and the surrounding environment, but Whitehill has become a more inclusive community, encouraging greater participation by residents in the daily life of the estate."

Steve Benson, President of the Chartered Institute of Housing, said: "The UK Housing Awards are presented by the Chartered Institute of Housing and Inside Housing magazine to showcase the contribution of housing organisations to communities.

"Now in their 12th year, the awards recognise outstanding achievement across nine categories and celebrate overall achievement in housing in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the UK as a whole," added Mr Benson.
