NI Man Dies In Monaghan Road Accident

A man from Northern Ireland has died in a car crash in Co Monaghan.

The accident happened on the N54 before lunchtime. Garda have reported that a lorry and a van were involved in the collision.

The van driver was killed and the lorry driver and his passenger were taken to Cavan General Hospital where they're being treated for shock.

It is believed the deceased is from Northern Ireland.

The road between Monaghan and Clones is closed this afternoon from Smithborough and diversions are in place.

The fatality comes just days after a man died following a car accident just across the border, at Carndonagh, Co Donegal.

That crash happened at Kelly's Corner at around midnight on Sunday. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The 27-year-old was taken to Altnagelvin hospital in Londonderry, but died on Tuesday.
