Sex Offender Alert Sparks Cross Border Hunt

There's a cross border hunt in progress today with the Police Service Northern Ireland and the Gardaí searching for a man described as a high-risk sex offender.

Police in the Irish Republic have echoed an earlier call from the PSNI that Ernest George Finlay, 53, who is considered by officers to pose a risk of causing serious harm to the public, should not be approached.

They said that anyone with information should instead contact police if they think they may know of his whereabouts and have also appealed directly to Mr Finlay to hand himself in at the nearest police station/Gardaí station.

The convicted sex offender, who is in the highest category risk bracket, went missing after failing to comply with his post-custody release conditions.

He is described as being about 5ft 8ins, of medium build, with blue eyes and brown hair.

He also has a small gap between his upper two front teeth and has several tattoos, three of which are on his arms, among them a picture of a horse's head.

The Irish police revealed that the PSNI have asked for their assistance and have subsequently issued a similar description of the missing man to aid in the PSNI's hunt.
