Tour operator backs 'Safe Sun' campaign
Local charity Action Cancer has teamed up with leading tour operator Falcon Holidays to launch a joint campaign reminding people to take care in the sun both at home and abroad.
The ‘Are You Practising Safe Sun?’ campaign highlights the risk of getting skin cancer and calls on holidaymakers and the general public to follow some simple guidelines to protect their health and skin.
Action Cancer Corporate Fundraiser, Leo Donaghy, said: “Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Northern Ireland and is continuing to rise with more than 3,500 diagnosed each year. But it’s not just people who go on holiday who are at risk. Even in Northern Ireland, individuals should take care and reduce the time spent outside between the hours of 11am and 3pm, remembering that it is possible to get sunburnt even when it is overcast.
“We are delighted that Falcon Holidays have teamed up with Action Cancer to spread the safe sun message and ensure that holidaymakers enjoy the benefits even after the holiday has ended."
The leaflet, which will be available at Action Cancer and travel agents throughout Northern Ireland, gives valuable advice on skin protection for both adults and children, including how to protect against the sun, how to use sunscreen properly and warning signs to look out for.
