Multimedia Event Draws International Audience
NI innovation continued apace this week with the launch of a 'Mediascape' event in Belfast drawing international attention.
Northern Ireland Finance Minister, Nigel Dodds, welcomed visitors from around the world including Denmark, Canada and Singapore to Northern Ireland for the third 'mscapeFest', which he said is based on a new and developing method of representing local landscapes.
This is an annual gathering of the international community who have contributed to or developed a 'Mediascape' which he said involves playing relevant sound and video to a user as they move through their location with a handheld device.
Speaking at the event in W5, in the Titanic quarter of Belfast, Mr Dodds said yesterday: "It is great to see that this event has attracted visitors from over 20 countries. It is fitting that we are celebrating the development of this knowledge-based technology in Belfast's shipbuilding heartland, where technological innovation and industry was the epicentre of the industrial revolution," he commented.
"Northern Ireland's economic future will be aided by continuing to make developments in technology.
"Mobile technology is an area of rising importance, and I am delighted that my Department has taken a lead in this very dynamic and innovative field," he said.
The event programme is packed with workshops mentored by industry professionals, keynotes from a range of backgrounds, community case studies and plenty of networking.

Movie-makers are coming to Ulster next month with a group of technology leaders based in California's 'Silicon Valley' leading a delegation from the entertainment and technology sectors to visit Belfast. From November 4th to 6th, the Irish Technology Leadership Group (ITLG) is holding the 'Hollywood Comes to Belfast' event.

Belfast Event Grant Opens To Applications
A funding package of £200,000 has been launched for the Belfast City Centre Event Grant Scheme with applications encouraged. The Department for Communities scheme will support arts, cultural and community based events and activities taking place in the city centre between April 2019 and March 2020.
