Trailer Deal Praised

There was a spot of good commercial news this week as Invest Northern Ireland Chief Executive Leslie Morrison welcomed the announcement by Dungannon-based Chieftain Trailers Ltd of an export deal worth €5 million.

Chieftain designs and manufactures a range of trailers, low-loaders, bowsers and forklift machinery for various sectors, including commercial, agriculture, materials handling and rail freight.

The landmark deal, the biggest in the company's 25 year history, will see Chieftain supply 100 trailers for agricultural and commercial use in eastern Europe.

Invest NI has offered significant financial assistance to the company in recent years, assisting it develop new products and expand into new high-tech premises.

Congratulating the company during a visit to its Dungannon plant, Mr Morrison said: "This major export contract for Chieftain is a result of the company’s commitment to innovation in both new product development and manufacturing methods.

"This has enabled Chieftain to carve out lucrative commercial opportunities for itself and seize upon them, while also maximising achievable profit margins," he said.

Wilson Freezes Empty Property Rating
NI Finance Minister Sammy Wilson has announced that the rating of empty commercial properties will remain frozen at 50%. The 50% level for the rating of empty commercial premises was introduced in Northern Ireland in 2004, and the Minister’s decision follows an evaluation of the scheme by his Department.

Bombardier Secures Largest C Series Order
Bombardier has secured it largest C Series order from Delta Air Lines. The American airline has agreed to acquire 75 CS100 aircraft with the option for 50 more. The order is valued at approximately $5.6 billion (£3.84bn). The firms CSeries wings are made at its site in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

New Belfast City To Brussels Flight Announced
Brussels Airlines has announced it is to fly between Brussels and George Best Belfast City Airport. The new service will operate five times a week and is to start on 27 March next year. Flights will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

New Belfast To Liverpool Flight Announced
Flybe are to launch a new flight connecting George Best Belfast City Airport and Liverpool John Lennon Airport from 29 March. The new flight will operate three times per day Monday to Friday. The new route brings Flybe's total number of flights out of Belfast to 15.
