Ritchie Launches £5m Bangor Housing Development

Housing Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA has officially kicked-off construction at a new £5m housing scheme in Bangor, County Down.

The development, by Oaklee Housing Association, will provide 34 high quality energy efficient apartments for older people on part of the former Bangor Dairies site on Shaftesbury Road.

Construction by MMM Design and Build Ltd is about to get underway, with completion planned for Spring 2010.

Minister Richie said: "This is the first step in providing a much needed housing scheme for older people in Bangor. This new accommodation, alongside existing private development, is a welcome addition to mixed tenure housing.

"I believe a well integrated mix of house types and tenures that can support a wide range of households of different sizes, ages and incomes, is the key to sustainable communities."

Ms Ritchie added: "The New Housing Agenda is all about delivering opportunity and choice for all and I am particularly pleased that older people will benefit from this new development. In early 2010, tenants can look forward to enjoying their new homes."
