Trade Awards mark North South co-operation

The InterTradeIreland All-Island Trade Awards in the Waterfront Hall marked the increasing importance of the contribution of cross-border businesses throughout Ireland.

This year's award ceremony, which was attended by more than 400 guests, celebrated the ever-developing relationship being fostered between the commercial community across Northern Ireland and the Republic.

InterTradeIreland has been officially open for business for the last 15 months but it is only in the last quarter of 2000 that their public profile and visibility has increased.

Included in their areas of business are:
  • Equity/venture capital
  • Graduate placements
  • All island competitiveness
  • Examining e-business initiatives for the SME sector
  • Development of a comprehensive all-island Business Model
This year's main award was won by local construction and facilities management firm, Graham's, from Country Down. Graham's have recently completed a number of high profile projects including the Connolly Station office in Dublin and site clearance for Xerox in Dundalk. The company also won the Large Business, North and South title.

Other major winners as this year's awards included Andronics Ltd from Londonderry who claimed the Small Business in Northern Ireland award and Best Newcomer. While Nevada tele.com claimed Best All Island Joint Venture, and The Internet Business in County Down won the Best Tradeable Services Company award.

The best Small Business in Ireland award went to Dublin company Renley Ltd, while the Best Community Business, North and South title was awarded to Computer Gym, from County Wicklow.
