Jobs Boost As Details Of Flagship Asda Store Emerge

Supermarket chain Asda has released further details of its £25m flagship store proposed for Co Antrim.

Around 400 jobs will be created at the supermarket, as well as much-needed construction work for the local sector.

Designs for the development, located at the Junction One Retail Park, were approved by the planning authority last month.

The overall scheme will encompass 55,000 square feet of floor space, making it Asda's largest Northern Ireland outlet.

Plans for the store were unveiled to the public earlier this month.

Philip Bartram, Asda's NI Property Communications Manager, said: "At a time of financial uncertainty, our plans represent a £25m direct investment in Antrim and will generate at least 400 new jobs for local people.

"We are working closely with the planning service and other agencies to bring this development forward and we are hopeful of a positive decision in the near future."

Work is expected to start on site in August this year and the store is scheduled to open in 2010.
