Warrenpoint UXB Alert Over
A bomb has been made safe after being found floating on a busy cross-border waterway.
The object was found in Carlingford Lough, off Warrenpoint and some distance from Omeath on the Co Louth side of the border on Friday morning.
It was identified as an unexploded World War II bomb after it was initially uncovered by a dredger at about 9am.
The device was put onto a barge and taken to a secluded part of the harbour for examination and shipping in and out of Warrenpoint was halted.
However, the all-clear for business to return to normal has since been given.
A Royal Navy spokesman said this afternoon there is no longer a risk and the harbour is now getting back to normal.
