House-Car Crash Suspect Charged
A man has been charged with a number of motoring offences plus assault on police after allegedly crashing into a house. A teenager narrowly escaped injury when the red Porsche car crashed through the bedroom wall of a house on Sunday morning in the Damolly Meadows area of Newry. Johnathon Funston, 16, who has learning difficulties and suffers from autism and epilepsy, was in the room at the time, but escaped injury.
Ambulance Man's Car Stolen
A paramedic's car has been taken while the medic was out on an emergency call. The blue Ford Focus was stolen from the ambulance station on Donaghanie Road, Omagh, sometime after 3am on Saturday morning. Thieves broke into the crew locker room and took the car keys. However, the car was recovered by police at 7pm that night at Corbo Road, near Fintona. It appeared to have been set alight, according to PSNI sources.
Derry Blaze Pair In Hopsital
Two people have been taken to hospital following a fire at a house in Londonderry. A chip pan is thought to have caused the blaze at a house in Hatmore Park on Creggan Road at near midnight on Sunday. One person was treated for shock and the other for smoke inhalation at Altnagelvin Hospital.
UU Magee Expansion Outlined
The University of Ulster has announced a £250m plan to expand its Magee campus and increase student numbers by 2,000. The university also plans to expand onto land currently occupied by Foyle and Londonderry College. The blueprint also includes provision for the creation of two new faculties, in Sustainable Technologies and Health and Wellbeing.
Musical Business Gets In Tune
A Bangor-based musical instrument company has increased its turnover by 300% in 2008 as a result of an export marketing drive supported by Invest Northern Ireland. Karacha specialises in worldwide distribution of a variety of musical equipment including string, brass, percussion and woodwind instruments. Oonagh Hinds, Invest NI's Eastern Regional Office Manager, said: "Karacha is a highly entrepreneurial company which is harnessing the benefits of the internet to increase its competitiveness, sell its products in new markets throughout the world and maximise its profitability. This local company’s strong performance in 2008 shows that by focusing on the right areas, businesses can achieve increased turnover and strengthen their position, even in this difficult economic climate."

Two die in separate road accidents
Two people have died in separate road accidents in Counties Londonderry and Down. In the latest accident, a man died following a road traffic accident in Ballynahinch on Wednesday. The accident occurred on the Crossgar Road at around 10.30am. Only one vehicle is believed to have been involved. The victim's name has yet to be released.

New Child Car Seat Legislation Introduced
New child car seat legislation has been introduced to offer better protection for children. Child car seats approved under the new standard will offer improved safety features, including a new sizing system (i-Size), to ensure that children are using the correct car seat.
