Venture capital helps HeartSine expansion plan

Belfast based medical equipment company, HeartSine Technologies has received £2 million of venture capital funding, which will enable the firm to further expand its operations into Europe and the US.

HeartSine has recently enjoyed a string of successes, following the development of its revolutionary automated external heart defibrillator machine, which gained European certification in April. The cash injection – from local company Crescent Capital and ACT Venture Capital of Dublin, now means HeartSine can now forge ahead with its overseas marketing activities, launching the defibrillator technology in Europe during the next few weeks, while preparing for a US launch some time later in 2002.

The company also intends to increase its workforce, by recruiting more engineers in Belfast, and by appointing marketing staff for its operations in the EU and the US.

Commenting on the news, HeartSine co-founder, president and CEO, Drew Hofmann, said: "We feel both fortunate and excited to receive this additional funding.

"We will now be in a much stronger position to maximise the commercial potential of our defibrillator, which we believe is more technically advanced than any other product on the market."
