Greyabbey couple disqualified as company directors
The High Court has disqualified a Greyabbey couple from being company directors.
At a hearing on May 16 Peter McCandless was disqualified from being a company director for six years as a result of his conduct as a director of Sefco Engineering Limited and Sefco Limited.
The Court also disqualified his wife Sandra McCandless from being a company director for two years as a result of her conduct as a director of Sefco Engineering Limited.
The cases were brought by the Insolvency Service of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment under the Companies (NI) Order 1989, which seeks to protect the public and trading community from abuses of the privilege conferred by limited liability status.
Sefco Engineering Limited traded in the manufacture, installation and repair of engineering products, from premises at Blaris Industrial Estate in Lisburn. It was wound up by the High Court on March 2, 2000 with debts of £113,515.
Sefco Limited traded in the same line of business as Sefco Engineering Limited and in 1998 acquired all of the assets of Sefco Engineering Limited.
Sefco Limited was also wound up by the High Court on August 18, 2000 with estimated debts of £190,484.

Two Co Down company directors disqualified
The High Court has disqualified a husband and wife from Newry, Joseph Rice and Janette Rice, from being company directors for periods of seven and four years respectively. The disqualification of the married couple was as a result of their conduct as Directors of J Rice (Contracts) Limited.

Two directors of a Northern Ireland property company have been disqualified. The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) has accepted the disqualifications for eight years of Maurice Colville Stewart, 61, of Moira Road, Ballinderry Upper, Lisburn and Ben Stewart, 35, of Belfast Road, Antrim.

Women in more profitable UK boardrooms
Women are continuing to break through the 'glass ceiling' of British business, according to the latest survey of UK directors. The survey by business analysts Experian found that female directors are also more likely to be involved in profitable businesses – 57.6% of all female directors are involved in companies that make a profit, compared to 56.
