Shock As Glengormley Teacher Killed In Romania
A well respected teacher from Newtownabbey has been killed in Romania.
It is understood that Jenny Buchanan, from Jordanstown on the outskirts of north Belfast, was the victim of an assault and has tragically since died from her injuries.
Mrs Buchanan was a teacher at Glengormley High School on Newtownabbey's Ballyclare Road. She was said to be visiting friends in the country at the time of her death.
According to the BBC, her husband, Dr Ian Buchanan, was informed of her death yesterday.
Commenting today, Dr Buchanan told the BBC that he and his daughters were devastated by the news.
It will shock the close-knit community around the school where Mrs Buchanan was the Head of Careers.
Glengormely High draws its pupils from several nearby primary schools and has just this month held its annual Transfer Open Evening for pupils currently in P7.
Comments on the respected teacher from past pupils on a rating website include one glowing tribute from a past pupil.
Writing last year she said that Jenny Buchanan was a "really lovely teacher. Really helpful as well".
