Fatal House Fire Investigated
Fire officers had to deal with two serious blazes over the weekend in Northern Ireland.
A widow in her 50s died in a tragic house fire in a residential area of Newry on Saturday morning.
The alarm was raised at about 7.40am on Saturday when a neighbour walking his dog spotted smoke coming from the Quayside Close property. Fire crews who arrived shortly afterwards found an unconscious woman inside the house. However, she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Two fire crews from Newry and one from Warrenpoint helped fight the blaze.
Meanwhile, some 35 firefighters used seven appliances to tackle a blaze at a timber yard in Newtownabbey early today.
It took three hours to bring the fire at Eglantine Timber in Glenville Road under control after it broke out at about 1.30am.
Extensive amounts of timber were destroyed, but firefighters stopped the blaze spreading to a warehouse. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
