Village Mourns For Young Crash Fatality

The stunned community of Millisle today gathered for the funeral of a young man killed in a car collision earlier this week.

Twenty-year-old Karl Wilkie junior died when his car crashed with another vehicle on the Ballyblack Road East on Tuesday night.

Over two hundred mourners attended the funeral service at Mr Wilkie's home in the Co Down seaside village.

One woman said the entire community is still reeling from the tragic news of a much-liked young man.

Mr Wilkie's parents own the First and Last pub in the village and his father, Karl senior, is a highly regarded rider in the classic motor bike fraternity.

Family members are said to be "devastated" by the untimely death.

Mr Wilkie's passenger and another driver still remain in hospital.

Strangford MLA Jim Shannon said: "The shadow of death has reached down to our own part of the country once again."

Three people died on Northern Ireland's roads within hours of a new Department of Environment safety media campaign being launched this week.
