Two Men Arrested Over Northern Bank Robbery Cash

Two men are to appear in court after being arrested yesterday in connection with money laundering of cash taken during the Northern Bank raid in 2004.

Gardai in Cork have arrested two men aged 62 and 40-years-old in Cork City yesterday.

Last month, Ted Cunningham, 60, was jailed for ten years for his involvement in the robbery.

Both men arrested last night are prominent republicans and one in particular has been active at a senior level in Sinn Féin in Munster.

A spokesman for Gardaí said the arrests were made as part of Operation Phoenix, which is the codename for the Garda investigation into money laundering following the Northern Bank robbery in Belfast in December 2004.

Both men will appear before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin this morning Tuesday 12th May at 11am.

Two Derry men arrested during Gardai raids

Two Men Arrested On Suspicion Of Kidnapping
Police have arrested two men on suspicion of kidnapping. The males, aged 33 and 31, were detained in Co L'Derry. It is believed there arrests are in connection with an incident in the city on Thursday, 26 October. No further details have been released.

Two men arrested in Northern Bank probe
Two men have been arrested in connection with inquiries into last year's £26.5 million Northern Bank robbery in Belfast. The men were arrested late on Tuesday night in Kilcoo, Co Down, a police spokesperson said. Last year's robbery of the Northern Bank headquarters on December 20th was the largest in UK history.
