IFEX 2002 opens in Belfast

Some of the leading names in the UK and Irish food industries are in Belfast this week as part of IFEX 2002, Ireland’s 16th international food, drink and catering exhibition which takes place at the Kings Hall in Belfast from April 23 to 25.

More than 300 companies, covering a wide range of products and services, are booked for IFEX 2002 which is expected to attract approximately 11,000 trade visitors. In the past IFEX has proven to be a successful launching pad and networking opportunity for the Irish food, drink and catering sectors.

This year’s IFEX will also incorporate a special packaging section, FoodPak 2002, which will reflect the importance of packaging and design in creating brand identity.

Esther O’Neill, Exhibition Director, said: “IFEX 2002 will be one of the first major trade exhibitions to be staged since the foot and mouth epidemic and, as such, presents an important opportunity for companies to show they are back in business.

"Much has happened in the industry since the last IFEX in 1999 and I know there will be many new products, services and innovations being unveiled for the first time.”

The addition of a half-day conference, organised in association with the Institute of Grocery Distribution, the leading UK research and training organisation for the food industry, and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, is a unique feature with speakers focusing their attention on prospects for the agri-food industry in the next decade and advancing their views on the optimum response from local indigenous industry.
