Burglar Commits Sexual Assault Against Child

The PSNI Rape Crime Unit is investigating a report of a sexual assault against a child in the Cliftonville area of north Belfast on Wednesday night.

The assault took place in the child's bedroom, in a property close to the home of a 62-year-old woman who was raped after an intruder came to her door on May 16.

The child is receiving specialist care by trained police officers and staff from the Rape Crime Unit.

A spokesperson from the Police said: "Because of the young age of the victim, officers are gathering information in the most sensitive way possible."

The attacker also stole a number of items from the property.

Political authorities had condemned the crime and called on local community to ensure their homes safe during these warm evenings.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the Rape Crime Unit on 0845 600 8000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
