NI Swine Flu Cases Rises To Seven
Health officials have confirmed the seventh case of swine flu in Northern Ireland.
A male diagnosed with the illness had been in contact with a previously confirmed case.
According to the Department of Health he has mild flu symptoms and is being treated at home.
The Public Health Agency is contacting people who were in close contact with him since he developed symptoms.
Dr Carolyn Harper of the PHA said: "This case was picked up through our follow-up of a previous case here and we will now follow-up anyone who was in close contact with this person after they developed the flu.
"This is the standard procedure in this type of case. People should not be alarmed by this further case and we should expect to see more over the next few days and weeks.
"That has been the pattern in other countries and we are planning for a similar picture here. We have good systems in place though to respond to any cases that appear."
NI has enough anti-virals to treat 50% of the population and this is being increased to treat 80%.
Stormont Health Minister Michael McGimpsey said: "It is not surprising that other cases are beginning to emerge and I would again urge people not to be alarmed. I am pleased to hear that this man is recovering well."
If a pandemic is declared, everyone in Northern Ireland will have access to two doses of vaccine if they need them.
