Delays As Border Security Alert Continues
A security alert on the Belfast to Dublin rail line is continuing to disrupt cross-border train services.
Bus transfers are in operation between Newry and Dundalk and the alert also led to long traffic tailbacks yesterday evening on the main route from north to south.
This morning, (Friday), train services between the capitals have again been badly hit as the bomb scare remains in place on the line, just north of the border, near the city of Newry.
The alert is believed to have been triggered by the discovery of a number of suspicious objects on the tracks yesterday afternoon.
The M1 motorway between the two towns was also temporarily closed yesterday, but has since reopened.
Just days ago there was a call for more action on cross-border security by the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee.
It said co-operation between the two countries on policing and justice matters had never been closer, but "needed to get even closer".
The MPs urged Northern Ireland Security Minister Paul Goggins to open discussions as soon as practicable with his Dublin counterpart on whether 'hot pursuit' and surveillance provisions should be put in place along the border.

Train Services Disrupted By Security Alert In Lurgan
Train services have been disrupted by a security alert in Lurgan, County Armagh. Lake Street is closed between North Street and Victoria Street. The railway line between Lurgan and Moira has also been closed. Translink said replacement buses have been put in place for Enterprise passengers travelling between Belfast and Dublin.

Crossmaglen Security Alert Continues
A security alert is continuing in Crossmaglen this morning following the discovery of a suspicious object. On Wednesday, a device, understood to be a beer keg, was found left close to a north-south electricity interconnector. The discovery followed a telephone warning that a bomb had been left in the Co Armagh village.

Numerous Security Alerts Reported
A number of security alerts have been reported in towns across Northern Ireland. It is understood the alerts are close to venues that are due to host PSNI recruitment information sessions this weekend. In Belfast, the Metropolitan College's Titanic Quarter and Millfield campuses have been evacuated.

The care taken by security forces over a Co Fermanagh border alert has proved to have been the right approach. A four-day security alert at Newtownbutler has ended after explosive experts defused the roadside bomb left by republican dissidents near Wattlebridge.
